The People of LAD


 

John Young - Managing Director After helicopter maintenance training in the US Army, John saw service Vietnam as a crew chief/gunner on AH-1G, OH-58 helicopters. After military service he obtained his Airframe and Powerplant license from the Academy of Aeronautics and after graduation remained as an instructor on aircraft structure and reciprocating engines. John joined United States Aviation Underwriters, Inc. in 1976. As a branch claims manager he traveled extensively in the Northeast dealing with physical damage and liability claims and in the 1980's he specialized in claim involving commercial and transport aircraft. Ultimately, John became Senior Vice President of the Hull Department, and as such was responsible for the supervision of field claim offices. He was also a member of the USAU Major Accident Response Team for both domestic and foreign accidents and often lectured to major airlines on accident preparedness and response. John has attended many industry courses on the Pratt & Whitney, GE and Rolls Royce engines, and holds a commercial pilot's license with instrument ratings for single and multi-engine aircraft.  

 

Paul H. Leonard is an insurance claims professional with 31 years of aviation experience including 28 years of aviation insurance claims investigation and management.  He is a private pilot with an excess of 3,100 flight hours.  Work experience includes management of an FBO and agricultural flying business, management of an insurance agency, independent aviation adjuster, Branch Claims Manager and Senior Vice President for Liability Claims for a major U.S. aviation underwriter.  He has been a speaker at numerous aviation law seminars, and is currently Claims Director for the Aviation Insurance Association.  He attended Tulane University and Louisiana State University in New Orleans.

 

Richard P. Boeschen is an insurance claims professional with 31 years of claims handling experience, including 9 years of Property & Casualty with The Hartford and Aetna, and 22 years of aviation claim handling and investigation for National Aviation Underwriters, Avemco Insurance Company, and US Specialty Insurance Company.  Prior to becoming President of Universal Loss Management, Inc., a 60 person adjusting firm with 10 offices strategically located across the 48 United States, in 2000, he served as its Vice President, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.  He is a graduate of Concordia University, Nebraska with a major in mathematics.

 

Gregg A. Pike is an insurance claims professional with 20 years of experience in aviation insurance claims investigation and management. Work experience also includes significant experience in the corporate legal operations of a major aviation insurance company. Mr. Pike is an attorney and a member of the bar of the District of Columbia and Virginia. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and the Thomas Cooley Law School. He resides outside Washington, DC with his wife and 3 children.

                    

Martha D. Jones is an insurance claims professional with 24 years of claims handling experience, including four years of Travel Medical plan management and 20 years of aviation claims handling and investigation. Prior to working in claims, she was an aviation renewal underwriter for 2 years. Management experience includes supervision and training of claims support staff and development and implementation of operations procedures. She attended Western Maryland College and Towson University earning a primary teaching certificate and is currently enrolled at Mount St. Mary’s College in a Business Administration degree program. 

  

Patrick C. Dolan has been in the insurance business for over 29 years. He worked on the property/casualty line side for over 14 years handling multi-line claims. He has served in a supervisory position of claims over a number of years and as a vice-president of sales for a predecessor underwriter. He became a licensed pilot in 1977 and has over 15 years experience doing aviation claims (hull & liability). In addition, Mr. Dolan serves as a director and officer on two local community association boards in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Dolan is married with four children residing in Towson, Maryland.  

 

Robyn L. Burkett is a Senior Claim Representative with 18 years of claims handling experience specializing in general aviation hull and liability claims.  Robyn has held many different positions within the ULM organization to include Asst. Operations Manager, Hull Manager, and Senior Claim Representative.  Robyn is a licensed property, casualty, life, accident and health agent in the state of Maryland.  She also holds a Senior Claims Law Associate degree from the American Educational Institute.

 

Patti K. Heuer has been an aviation insurance claims adjuster for 4 years.  She started in the aviation insurance business with Avemco Insurance Company in 1983 working in various departments including Marine and Aviation Underwriting prior to moving to claims.

 

Curtis A. Rush is a senior claims examiner with 11 years of aviation and marine claims administration experience. For the last 4 years he has been responsible for the marketing and sale of insurance company aircraft salvage.   Curt is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida with a BS in Aeronautics.  He holds and A & P Certificate.  He holds a Legal Principle Claims Specialist and Fraud Claim Law Associate certificates from the American Educational Institute.

  

Michael A. Littrell is an insurance professional with 7 years of aviation claims handling experience and is the Manager of the Prescott, AZ. office.  He holds a commercial pilot certificate with single/multiengine and instrument ratings and an advanced ground instructor certificate.  He is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with an Aeronautical Science major concentrating in the study of aviation safety.

 

Robert R. Cole is a Regional Claims Manager and Senior Liability Specialist with 10 years of experience handling aviation claims as an adjuster, investigator and claims attorney.  He has been involved with aviation for over 30 years, starting with private pilot ground school at the age of 16, and continuing as an aviator in Lockheed Hercules cargo and Orion maritime patrol aircraft for the U.S. Air Force and Navy.  His work experience includes 8 years as an insurance defense and commercial litigation attorney as well as supervision and management of outside litigation counsel.  He is a graduate of the University of Utah, with a degree in Political Science and a Certificate in International Relations, holds a Master of Science Degree from Abilene Christian University in Human Relations and Management, and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Seattle University.  He is a Member of the Washington State Bar Association, and the Bar of the federal court for the Western District of Washington.  He has a commercial multi-engine and single-engine land pilot’s license with instrument and Hercules-type ratings, and over 2,500 flight hours.

 

Jerry Wallace is an insurance claims adjuster with 32 years of aviation experience, and 20 years of claims handling experience. He is a Commercial Pilot with over 7,500 hours’ pilot time, with pilot experience in corporate, jet charter and scheduled air carrier operations. His insurance background includes automobile, watercraft, general liability and aviation claims. He has worked exclusively in aviation for the past 13 years, handling first and third party hull & liability, property damage, bodily injury, products and hangarkeeper’s lines. Attended Fullerton College as a Pharmacy Major prior to aviation career.

  

Russell B. Day is a Regional Claims Manager with 16 years of aviation claims experience, including management and field investigation of physical damage as well as liability claims.  Management experience includes operation of an aircraft recovery and storage facility and supervision of field adjusters.  Prior to entering the aviation claims investigation field, he worked for an engineering firm as an Airport Planner.  He is a graduate of Central Missouri State University and has a Master of Science degree with a major in Aviation.  He holds a Commercial Pilot’s license with an Instrument rating for both single and multi engine aircraft and has 1,500 total flight hours.  He holds an AEI Claims Specialist designation. 

 

Kevin W. Good is a regional claims representative specializing in general aviation and minor liability claims.  He has been in the insurance industry since 1992 and has retained a Missouri agent license in all lines as well as adjuster licenses in multiple jurisdictions.  He was responsible for negotiating and settling automobile liability, injury , medical and subrogation claims for five years before joining ULM in 1999. He is currently working toward his Associate in Claims degree and is a graduate of University of Missouri, St. Louis with a B.A. in Psychology.  He holds a single engine private pilot license with 325 total flight hours.

   

David E. Gourgues is an insurance claims adjuster with 11 years of experience handling aircraft hull and liability claims, airport premise liability claims and Products/Completed Operations claims.  He is an instrument-rated private pilot and is the Manager of the Orlando, FL. office.  Work experience includes management of an independent insurance adjuster office, claims and litigation management of commercial airport first and third party claims and field investigator of aviation hull and liability losses.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

Steven M. Homenda is an aviation insurance claims adjuster with over 13 years aviation insurance claims experience.   He is a private pilot with 1250 flight hours and 10 years experience as a licensed Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic, with FAA Inspection Authorization for 6 years in Air Taxi and General Aviation preventive maintenance.  A graduate of Frederick Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree in General Education, Steve enjoys golf and radio control aircraft model building and flying. 

 

Robert E. Norris is a senior claims specialist with 31 years of claims handling experience, including 27 years of property & casualty & aviation, and four years of handling and investigating solely aviation claims.  He is the Manager of the Dallas, TX. field office. His management experience includes managing a branch office for a leading international independent insurance adjusting company.  He is a graduate of Wichita State University with a BBA in Business Administration.  He holds commercial and flight instructor certificates with Instrument Rating and has accumulated over 4,000 flight hours.
